Dental Emergencies We Treat
If something feels wrong with your teeth or gums, call us first. Our team will ask a few questions, tell you what to do right away, and schedule your visit.
- Severe toothache or throbbing pain
- Chipped, cracked, or broken teeth
- Knocked-out or loose teeth
- Lost or broken crowns and fillings
- Swelling or a painful bump on the gums
- Injuries to the lips, cheeks, or tongue
What to Do Before Your Visit
Knocked-Out Tooth
Pick the tooth up by the crown, not the root. Gently rinse it with water without scrubbing. If you can, place it back in the socket and bite down on a clean cloth. If not, keep it in a cup of milk and call us right away. The sooner you are seen, the better the chance of saving the tooth.
Broken or Chipped Tooth
Rinse your mouth with warm water and save any pieces. Hold a cold compress on your cheek to reduce swelling.
Toothache
Rinse with warm water and gently floss to remove anything stuck between your teeth. Do not put aspirin directly on your gums.
Lost Crown or Filling
Keep the crown in a safe place and bring it with you. Avoid chewing on that side until we can see you.
Restoring Your Tooth
We start with an exam and digital X-rays to find the cause of your pain. From there, we explain your options and treatment costs before we begin. Many broken or damaged teeth can be restored with a CEREC® same-day crown, designed and made in our office, so you can leave with a permanent restoration in one visit. Nitrous oxide is available to help you stay relaxed during treatment.
When to Go to the Emergency Room
Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room if you have trouble breathing or swallowing, swelling that spreads to your eye or neck, a high fever with facial swelling, a broken jaw, or bleeding that will not stop.
